State of Emergency LIFTED. Roads open, power restored, & businesses open. See message for Nixle policy change.
As of 9:00am today, Monday February 13th, the State of Emergency issued by the Teton Board of County Commissioners has been lifted for the Teton Village area and those customers served by the Crystal Springs electrical substation. Power has been restored, all roads in Teton County are open, and many businesses that were impacted started opening yesterday and continue to open today. START bus service to Teton Village and standard winter routes are also resuming normal operations today. Due to the effort of the entire community of Teton County, emergency response to this winter storm was speedy and the recovery process is well underway.
A policy change was made last year to add automated weather Warning products (the highest level of alert) from the National Weather Service to the public Nixle feed. Many users commented on the alerts being issued at inopportune times late at night, so we set "quiet hours" for alerts from 10pm to 7am. Even with this restriction, and with the recent weather activity, this still produced too many alerts for users based on feedback that Teton County Emergency Management has received.
Therefore, Teton County Emergency Management is going to discontinue issuing automated weather alerts from the National Weather Service through our public Nixle feed. Those subscribers that wish to still receive automated text alerts between 7am and 10pm from the National Weather Service simply need to text the word TETONWX to 888777 to turn this feature on. If at any time you want to stop receiving messages either from TETONWX or our standard Nixle service, simply text the word STOP to 888777 and follow the instructions provided.
Additionally, those subscribers that would like to receive Nixle SMS/email messages in Spanish can text the word ESP to 888777 to turn on Spanish translations. Texting the word ENG to 888777 will turn on English Nixle messaging.
Be on the lookout in the next few weeks for a survey on our Nixle service and how we are doing with it. Thank you for your time.
