47 year old Lance Konstants Healy, from Charlotte N.C. identified as fall victim.
Polk County 911 Communication, was contacted around 4:50 pm Sunday afternoon in reference to an individual who had fallen off a cliff at Big Bradley Falls. Emergency personnel, Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Local Fire Departments responded and set up incident command for the rescue effort recovery. Family members were notified of the accident and arrangements made for his children until their arrival.
Witnesses stated Mr. Healy was hiking with his two daughters at the time of the accident. Mr. Healy lost his footing when he stepped down to lookout point for a better view. Mr. Healy reportedly fell approximately 100 feet.
Hikers in the area attempted to provide medical care until Emergency Personnel could reach his location. Mr. Healy was pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency Personnel. A number of agencies assisted in the recovery effort of Mr. Healy from the secluded and difficult terrain location. Mr. Healy was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital around 10:40pm.
Big Bradley Falls is known for beautiful waterfalls and miles of hiking trails. It is also known for its dangerous terrain. Since 2000 a total of eight people have reportedly fallen from the high cliffs. Out of the eight reported falls only one person has survived.
