INCIDENT: VC 10851 - Vehicle Theft, PC 496 - Possession of Stolen Property

LOCATION: National Trails Highway and Corral Road, Helendale

SUSPECT(S): Charles Griffin, 26 years old, a resident of Helendale.

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY:
On February 13, 2017, at about 9:00 am, the victim realized his semi-truck and trailer had been stolen from Silver Lakes. The victim contacted his employer who was able to track the location of the semi-truck through a GPS system. The victim called the Sheriff's Department and advised per his GPS Tracking System his stolen truck and trailer was parked near the area of National Trails Highway and Corral Road in Helendale. Deputies from the Barstow Station were dispatched to the area, but prior to deputies arriving, the victim drove to National Trails Highway and Corral Road, Helendale, where he found four subjects in or around the stolen semi-truck. The victim confronted the four subjects, just as deputies arrived on scene. The four subjects fled the area but were located and detained with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and deputies from the Victor Valley Station. After completing the investigation, Charles Griffin was arrested for the vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. His brother, Lewis Griffin was arrested for three misdemeanor warrants. Both brothers were transported to the Barstow Jail for booking. The investigation revealed the remaining two subjects were not involved in the crime.
The stolen property was returned to the victim.
