FLOOD ADVISORY ISSUED/ FLASH FLOOD WATCH AND HIGH WIND WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT
A Flood Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service. Over the next few hours, the rainfall intensity is expected to increase. Stay away from washes and rivers and avoid driving through canyons, where there is a high possibility of rock and debris flows. Minor mud and debris flows are possible in and around the recent burn areas, including the Sand and Calgrove Fire areas. Strong winds are expected to hit between 50 to 80 mph during the storm
Residents in areas prone to flooding are being asked to SHELTER IN PLACE. Streets and Arizona crossings that have flooded during recent storms will most likely flood again today. Residents in Sand Canyon, Placerita Canyon, Iron Canyon and areas of Val Verde, Little Tujunga and Agua Dulce/Acton (Soledad Canyon Road, from the 11430 block in Agua Dulce to the 7000 block in Acton) should be aware that they may not have access in or out of their neighborhood during the storm which is expected to produce the heavy rains until 10 pm tonight.
Please remind neighbors, friends, family and anyone who may be visiting you in the flood areas, DO NOT attempt to drive through standing or moving water. Just six inches of water could carry away a vehicle. Be aware that during these storms there is a possibility of downed trees and power lines. Please be cautious of boulders or other debris in the roadway, and report downed power poles and odors of natural gas immediately by calling 9-1-1. Do not touch downed power lines. Remember to turn on your headlights while driving in the rain and be aware that freeway flooding may occur. Avoid driving in pooled water, standing water is often deeper than it looks, and can conceal tire-damaging debris or make vehicles inoperable.
