Narrative:
One person was swept away by swift water and three people were rescued Friday afternoon when heavy rains quickly flooded the barranca area west of the 1200 block of Camino Dos Rios in Thousand Oaks.
Officers with the Thousand Oaks Police Department, the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to the location after receiving a report of three people stranded on high ground within the barranca
A swift water rescue team comprised of Ventura County Sheriff and Ventura County Fire Department personnel successfully rescued the three people. The victims told rescue personnel that a fourth person was swept away by the strong currents before rescuers arrived. A search for the individual was immediately initiated by air and ground teams. The search is ongoing.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public of the extreme dangers of being near fast moving water in washes, river bottoms and low lying areas during torrential rain storms.
