Significant rain/wind storm to impact Novato Sunday night through Tuesday morning.
Novato will once again experience a significant rain and wind storm over the next two days according the National Weather Service.
The National Weather is forecasting a major storm to impact our area Sunday midday through Tuesday morning. The storm is expected to bring 3.5 inches to 5.5 inches of rain throughout Marin. Because of the heavy rainfall and high winds that will accompany the storm, the National Weather Service is once again referring to this as an “Atmospheric River Event”.
The ground is already at 100% saturation and we also expect localized roadway flooding as experienced in our previous storms this year. Novato Creek will rise significantly but is not expected to reach flood stage.
Novato emergency managers are working with the Marin Office of Emergency Services to prepare for the storm. City of Novato Public Works will have crews on duty as well as the Novato Fire District has added extra staff on Sunday and Monday for storm emergencies.
Novato Emergency Operations Center may activate if conditions warrant. Please remember to drive safely during heavy rain and wind conditions. Vehicle accidents have increased during storm conditions. Follow all detours, keep headlights in the on position and make sure your visibility during driving is not hindered. Do not drive through road closures or on flooded streets.
The City of Novato provides free self-serve sandbags and sand stockpile at 3 locations. Bring your own shovels and gloves.
