Torrance Police Pursuit 02-20-2017
Torrance Police and the California Highway Patrol are continuing their investigation of a police pursuit that occurred on Monday, February 20th 2017 at approximately 1:46 am. The vehicle pursuit began in the area of Sepulveda Boulevard and Maple Avenue and concluded at the intersection of Carson Street and Maple Avenue where the suspect vehicle collided with an uninvolved motorist. As a result of the collision, the uninvolved motorist was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Torrance Fire Department at approximately 1:57 am. The victim’s identification is pending upon proper notifications. There were no injuries to Torrance Police Officers.
The driver, Zachary Alexander 22yrs of San Pedro, is being charged with vehicle theft, felony evading and murder.
The female accomplice, Deborah Ornelas 29yrs of San Pedro, who is still being treated at a local hospital, will be charged with vehicle theft.
All charges will be submitted to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for felony filing consideration.
This incident is being investigated under the command and direction of Captain Martin Vukotic of the Special Operations Bureau with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol.
