ICE/Snow accumulations likely into Friday Night
...ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATIONS LIKELY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY NIGHT... .Strong low pressure moving through just to the south of Wisconsin is expected to bring snow and ice accumulations to southern Wisconsin tonight into Friday night. The highest snow and ice totals are likely along and north of a line from Mineral Point to Madison to Port Washington. Though icing could be limited on sidewalks and roadways due to initial warm temperatures, elevated tree limbs and power lines will respond to the colder temperatures faster and will be more susceptible to ice accumulations. Windy conditions are also expected with this storm, which could increase the potential for tree limbs and power lines to come down. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 AM CST SATURDAY... The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain and snow...which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 AM CST Saturday. * TIMING...Rain late this afternoon and into the evening will transition to snow for a time by late evening into early tonight. A mix with or changeover to freezing rain is then likely later tonight into Friday. A changeover back to snow is expected later Friday into Friday night. * SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS...Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of .10 to .30 inches are expected. * WINDS / VISIBILITIES...Northeast winds gusting to 30 mph tonight into Friday, becoming north and then northwest Friday evening and night. Visibilities of 1/2 mile to 1 mile are possible in moderate snowfall. * IMPACTS...The ice and snow will likely result in difficult travel conditions, including the Friday morning and evening commutes. In addition, ice accumulations and gusty winds could combine to bring down tree limbs and power lines.
