Update: Identification of found person determined
On February 18, 2017, an elderly Punjabi-speaking man was found walking and lost in Menlo Park near Santa Cruz Avenue at San Mateo Drive. The subject was found to suffer from memory loss and was unable to identify himself. Officers utilized translators to help determine where he may reside and to garner more information. After exhausting all possible leads and contacting police agencies, the Menlo Park Police Department issued a press release as well as a social media blast asking community members for assistance.
This morning, the Menlo Park Police Department received a call from someone claiming to be a family member of the found person after seeing social media postings about him. That relative responded to the Menlo Park Police Department where it was confirmed that she was in fact a relative of the found person and helped officers positively identify him. The relative was also able to provide a reasonable explanation as to why the found person was not known to be lost/missing. Currently, the family member and found person are being reunited.
The Menlo Park Police Department would like to thank everyone who assisted with the identification of the found person and his reunification with his family. Over the past 18 hours, we received numerous calls and emails from community members as well as the media. Additionally, we received assistance from several area police departments as well as state agencies. It is because of this assistance, that we were able to have this positive outcome.
