Anderson Officials Contine Committment to Community
With the brunt of the recent storms passing and the Shasta Dam capacity being at a much more manageable level for the Bureau of Reclamation, the eminent threat of flooding has been substantially reduced for the time being. City of Anderson officials have temporarily suspended daily disaster planning meetings and are comfortable with the resources now in place should the need arise. The Anderson Fire District, the Anderson Police Department, City Council members and City administrators all are unified in their efforts to continuously monitor water releases, flows, and impacts to the residences and properties in the City of Anderson.
A special thanks to your local Anderson Fire District for prompting the formation of our critical incident disaster planning committee. The Anderson Fire District has put in several additional layers of planning to assure the safety of this community. Our Fire District recognized the need for, and importance of, gathering our local resources and planning for potential flooding well in advance. Because of this proactive thinking and organization, the City of Anderson was able to partner with the Fire District and prepare to serve our citizens in a moment’s notice, if the need arises.
Please understand we are not yet free from the possibility of flooding. We are currently experiencing a period of positive outlook, favorable weather forecasts, and a reduced state of urgency. We would like to remind all the citizens that disaster preparedness is everyone’s responsibility and proactive planning begins at home. Monitor weather conditions, take steps to secure your households and properties, and always have alternative housing plans.
