Traffic Stop Nets Two Arrests for Dealing Meth
Warrick County – Last night at approximately 10:00, Trooper Josh Greer stopped the driver of a 1999 Toyota Avalon on SR 62 near Stevenson Station Road for having the registration plate improperly displayed. The driver was identified as Chasity Shelton, 42, of Mt. Vernon. The front seat passenger was identified as Robert Earl Payton, 53, of Rockport. Further investigation revealed Shelton was driving while suspended and Payton was wanted out of Spencer County for manufacturing methamphetamine.
Warrick County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Miller and his K-9, Fado, arrived to assist Trooper Greer. While walking around the vehicle the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. A further search of the vehicle was conducted and officers found several plastic baggies containing approximately 44 grams of crystal meth, a small amount of marijuana, two digital scales and drug paraphernalia. Shelton and Payton were arrested and taken to the Warrick County Jail.
