Crime Report for February 2017
Northfield Township Police Crime Incident Updates
January 24 – February 27, 2017
February 2017 • Larcenies
There is a growing trend with internet shopping which, unfortunately, creates an opportunity for theft. A neighboring city has recently had a rash of Larcenies; aka “Parcel Porch Thefts”. While UPS/Fed-Ex are busy delivering packages to residential areas, the suspects follow and steal packages that have been delivered. Two suspects appear to be involved and are driving a blue, grey or dark colored Honda four-door passenger car. One suspect drives the Honda, while the other suspect (a thin white male wearing a dark hoodie with a logo on the front and writing on the back) runs up to the porch and takes the parcel. Remember: Report any suspicious vehicles, track your packages or ask a neighbor who is home to accept your delivery.
01/26/17 • Larceny from Auto
9400 Block of Wildwood • Victim reported that during the night, an unknown suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and stole property, including a laptop. No witnesses, no suspects. Remember to lock your vehicles and always remove your valuables.
01/27/17 • Attempt Identity Fraud
A resident received a possible phishing email for an Attempt Identity Fraud. Remember; do not give out any personal information unless you are the initiator of the contact. Phishing computer scams display what appears to be legitimate correspondence emails, but are often sent requesting an urgent/immediate response. Confirm through a 2nd means that you received a legitimate correspondence.
02/13/17 • Hit & Run
9100 Block of Grove • Hit & Run Property Damage Crash. The driver was identified, and a ticket was issued.
02/17/17 • Soliciting a Minor
A teenage resident was friended on a social media site by an unknown subject who requested inappropriate photos. The incident is under investigation. REMIND all social media users to be cautious when accepting friends they do not know. Talk to your teens about trusting their gut, not responding to uncomfortable requests, and the consequences of “sexting” (forwarding sexually explicit photos, or videos is illegal for teens under 18).
02/27/17 • Identity Theft
A resident attempted to file his taxes and was informed that he was a victim of Identity Theft, as an unknown individual had already filed in his name. The case is being investigated by IRS. File your taxes early to avoid being a victim of tax identity theft/fraud.
