It is tax filing season and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office wants everyone to be aware of the IRS tax fraud scam that appears this time of the year. Yesterday we took a report of a female victim who lost $1700.00 to this scam. If you receive a phone call from someone purporting to be an IRS agent collecting tax money owed it is a scam. Do not respond to these individuals. Simply hang up the phone. The IRS and Law Enforcement do not conduct business like this over the phone. If you have a warrant we are never going to pre-warn you over the phone. Never send money, I-Tune cards, green dot cards, money orders or any other form of currency in response to these calls.
