Monday morning downtown business windows smashed out. Police flagged down and suspect arrested.
Monday morning, around 6:30 a.m., a witnessed flagged down a police sergeant to report a crime that just occurred. The witness saw a woman smash out the front business window to Screamin' Mimi's, on Sebastopol Avenue, and continue on. It was later determined the suspect had broken out three different business windows, including Screamin' Mimi's.
Police searched the area and located the suspect in the city plaza. She was identified by multiple witnesses as the person who smashed out the windows and arrested. The suspect refused to identify herself at the time of arrest and was later identified during booking at the Sonoma County Jail.
The suspect, Leslie Renee Nielsen, from unincorporated Sebastopol, was booked on Felony vandalism.
We would like to thank the witnesses who contacted the police department when the crime occurred. Their quick contact helped focus our attention and take this person into custody, before any additional vandalism could occur.
