INCIDENT: 2017 CAL-Region Mountain Rescue Association Re-Accreditation

LOCATION: Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area – Hodge Rd, Barstow

SUMMARY:
On March 4, 2017, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department West Valley Search & Rescue team will host the 2017 California Region Mountain Rescue Association Reaccreditation.

This event is a public safety first responder training event designed to evaluate the ability of wilderness search and rescue (SAR) teams to competently and safely conduct a wilderness search for a missing person and provide appropriate medical care based on simulated injuries. Teams will also conduct an evidence search within a specified area during which each team must successfully recover items sought in law enforcement evidence searches (e.g. weapons, personal ID, clothing, etc.).

Approximately 450 participants from 24 SAR teams (18 Sheriff’s Departments) in California and Western Nevada are anticipated to attend. The 24 SAR teams are comprised of highly trained unpaid volunteers who donate countless hours for training and wilderness SAR missions to save lives. Accredited teams must meet the high standards of the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) and must be re-evaluated every five years in each of the three search and rescue skills: Search and Tracking, Technical Rock, and Snow and Ice in order to maintain accreditation.

Opening Ceremony begins at 8:00 hours on March 4, 2107. The Command Post location for the Opening Ceremony will be located on the north side of Hodge Road approximately 1/3 of a mile east of the I-15 Freeway.
