SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Sex Offender Compliance Checks

Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies have begun their annual sex offender compliance checks in conjunction with the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Enforcement Unit. The checks involve a Deputy making contact with each person required to register on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry and confirming the information previously supplied. Any discrepancies are corrected and if the person is found to be not in compliance with the law, Deputies will be requesting charges through the Prosecutor’s Office.
In Montcalm County there are currently 331 sex offenders on the public registry. The offenders are required to verify their information with either the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, or local police department one to four times per year depending on the criteria of their offense. Deputies conduct these extra checks in order to confirm that the offenders are complying with their reporting requirements.
