Indiana State Police Investigates a Fatal Crash on the Indiana Toll Road
On March 5, 2017 at approximately 4:20pm, Indiana State Police investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on the Indiana Toll Road near the 140 mile marker in Steuben County. The driver, 44 year old Sean Hubbard of Chicago experienced a medical condition involving incontrollable coughing or choking and temporarily lost his vision. Hubbard was attempting to pull onto the shoulder of the highway when he apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle left the roadway and entered the north ditch, slide sideways, and stuck a tree.
The vehicle was a Red 2015 Dodge Journey and was carrying a family of 2 adults and 3 children at the time of the crash. An 8 year old female passenger in the back seat was initially trapped in the vehicle due to the crash. The Hubbard, his 8 year old daughter, and 17 year old son were injured in the crash. The 8 year old passenger was flown by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Hubbard and his 17 year old son were transported by ambulance to Parkview hospital. The adult female passenger in the vehicle was uninjured.
Hubbard’s 15 year old son was also a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene from head trauma. The family has been notified. The extent of injuries to the other passengers transported to the hospital is unknown at this time.
