IRS Scams are Happening Again
The Northfield Twp Police Department is again advising our community members to ignore any pressured phone call claiming to be an official notice from the IRS. Do not return calls that instruct you to call because of a lawsuit being filed against you. The IRS will not call and threaten anyone with a lawsuit.
The IRS will NOT
• Make unexpected phone calls - correspondence is U.S. mail
• Make threatening phone calls
• Demand immediate payment
• Request payment through wire or with Pre-paid cards
• Make contact through email
Protect yourself from fraudulent callers claiming to be the IRS
Do NOT:
• Provide account or other personal information. Just hang up.
• Wire money or make payment with pre-paid cards
• Provide any PIN’s, passwords or confidential information
Report incidents to TIGTA 1-800-366-4484 if you have already paid your taxes or the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint – include “IRS Scam"
