La Porte County Native Promoted to Area Commander
Lowell – Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the promotion of Lieutenant David Kirkham to the rank of Captain. In his new assignment, Kirkham will serve as the Area I Commander for the Indiana State Police. Area I consists of Indiana State Police posts at Lowell, Lafayette, and Peru.
Prior to his promotion, Kirkham, a 23-year veteran of the department, served 11 years as the lieutenant of Area I Field Investigations. Kirkham began his career at the Lowell District, where he patrolled La Porte and Porter Counties, as well as served as a field training officer and member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon. He served as a gaming investigator, district detective, and investigative squad sergeant, before being promoted to lieutenant in 2005. Kirkham is a member of the Indiana State Police Pension Advisory Board and the president of the Indiana State Police Alliance.
Captain Kirkham is a graduate of New Prairie High School, Saint Joseph’s College, and the FBI National Academy. He lives in La Porte County with his wife, Danielle, and their three children.
