Columbus man charged with child pornography
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit received information regarding suspicious activity involving child pornography at the residence of 164 Beechwood Drive West in Columbus. An investigation into the report was initiated and Homeland Security was contacted to assist. Detectives began conducting surveillance of the residence and monitoring activities at the residence. Gary Michael Joyner resided at the 164 Beechwood Drive West, a little over a year.
A federal search warrant of the residence was issued March 8, 2017 and executed on Thursday March 9, 2017 by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office along with Homeland Security and the Columbus Police Department. Images were located at the residence involving child pornography.
Gary Michael Joyner was arrested and taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Joyner was charged with twelve counts of ‘Second degree Sexual Exploitation”. Bond for Joyner was set at $500,000. Joyner is currently being held at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
Captain B.J. Bayne with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Unit, stated this is an ongoing investigation and further charges are expected.
