Announces Arrest For:
Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a Day Care, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substances, Resisting a Public Officer, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Careless and Reckless Driving to Endanger
The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith, 23 years of age of Southern Pines, North Carolina for the following charges: Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a Day Care, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substances, Resisting a Public Officer, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Careless and Reckless Driving to Endanger.
On Sunday, March 12, 2017, at approximately 1:10 pm, officers from the Patrol Division of the Southern Pines Police Department were conducting an investigation into suspicious activity in the 100 block of Murray Hill Road. As officers approached a vehicle occupied by Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith, the vehicle quickly departed only to stop a short distance away. Once the vehicle stopped, Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith fled on foot from officers into a wooded area. Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith was apprehended by the pursuing officers. At the time of his arrest, Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith was found to be in possession of 115.9 grams of marijuana, digital scales, narcotics packaging paraphernalia, $945.00 in U.S. currency, and a loaded/stolen .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was subsequently incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Center under a $60,000.00 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on March 28, 2017. Shali Jwaan Ri Shiek Smith has a pending court date scheduled for March 20, 2017 in Moore County Superior Court for a prior drug arrest in Southern Pines.
