...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
TO 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY...
* LOCATIONS...The greater Capital District, Helderbergs, Schoharie
Valley, Mohawk Valley, western and southern Adirondacks, Lake
George Saratoga region, northern Taconics and southern Vermont.
* HAZARD TYPES...Heavy snowfall.
* Snow Accumulations...1 to 2 feet.
* Snowfall rates...2 to 4 inches per hour is likely at times
Tuesday.
* TIMING...Snowfall will spread the area from southwest to
northeast during the early morning hours through sunrise. Snow
will come down heavy during the day Tuesday before diminishing
Tuesday night. Lighter snowfall may linger late Tuesday night
into Wednesday especially across the higher terrain.
* IMPACTS...Very dangerous travel conditions due to snow covered
roads and very poor visibilities. Gusty winds will result in
some blowing and drifting snow.
* Winds...Northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
* Visibilities...Less than one mile with one quarter mile or less
at times during the day Tuesday.
* Temperatures...Mainly in the 20s Tuesday and Wednesday,
falling into the teens Tuesday night.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...
food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
