Advisory

Please remove all cars from the street to so DPW can clear roadways - see email for important snow removal guidelines

The Department of Public Works is requesting that all vehicles be removed from the roadway. This will allow the snow plows to clear the Borough streets during and after the storm.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Residents are reminded of the following Borough Ordinances that will be strictly enforced by the Police Department:

88-20 - All snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within twenty-four (24) hours after the snow has ceased falling or the ice has formed thereon.

88-20.1 - It shall be unlawful to plow or deposit snow from your property into the traveled portion of  any public street or sidewalk or to obstruct a neighboring driveway or mailbox or any fire hydrant.

Homeowners will be responsible for the actions of contractors hired for snow removal.

 

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low teens tomorrow, with "Realfeel" temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees. 

With this severe cold you can expect frostbite within 6 minutes to exposed skin and hypothermia within 15 minutes. Please stay inside and if you need to go outside, dress appropriately and take extra safety precautions. 

If you are experiencing problems with your heating systems, please seek alternative shelter as soon as possible. Be cautious of freezing water pipes. 

ANIMALS: Animals left outside longer than 5 minutes may experience frost bite as well as hypothermia just like humans. Please make sure your animals (dogs and cats) are inside your residence or at least a HEATED shelter. 

If using a heater in your residence or garage, please be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas which can kill in minutes. Make sure you have proper ventilation and turn it off prior to going to bed. A carbon monoxide detector should be in the residence and should be checked to ensure batteries are working properly. 

Symptoms of carbon monoxide include flu like symptoms, red/flushed skin, headaches. If experiencing any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
