Back To The Future - Ripon Police Adopt Retro Uniform Patch
Police departments all over the world utilize unique uniform patches for identification purposes. The Ripon Police Department has utilized a number of identification patches over the years. The first Ripon Police patch was a diamond shaped, blue and black patch with gold letters. Later Ripon patches depicted colorful almond blossoms and almond trees with “California’s Almond Capital” or later “Almond Capital of The World” emblazoned on them.
Police Chief Ed Ormonde is a traditionalist at heart and he wanted to go back to the first patch issued but with a modern look. The new patch looks very similar to the original vintage patch, with updated color shading.
These retro uniform patches will be issued in April. These patches were ordered as replacements for the previously depleted patches at no additional cost to the city. Any additional cost for equipping existing officer uniforms with the new patch will be paid by the officers.
