Failure to Signal Lane Change Leads to Felony Arrest
Muncie – Last night just before midnight Trooper Michael Tinch was driving through Muncie on Madison St. at 24th St., when he saw a south bound Monte Carlo go from the right lane to the left lane without a signal. Indiana Law 9-21-8-25 states “A vehicle traveling in a speed zone less than 50 M.P.H. shall give a signal continuously for not less than the last 300 ft. traveled by the vehicle before turning or changing lanes.”
Tinch got the car stopped at 26th and Madison and made contact with the driver and two passengers. Muncie Police Department K-9 Officer Wells was nearby and came to assist. Officer Wells’ K-9 partner Carlos walked around the outside of the vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics inside.
Further investigation revealed syringes, paraphernalia and Methamphetamine in the vehicle. The back seat passenger, Kenneth Ryle, age 33 of Muncie, was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony, and misdemeanor Possession of Paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Delaware County Jail. The driver was cited for Failure to Signal A Lane Change.
From March 3 through March 26, 2017, officers across the state are conducting high-visibility patrols specifically designated to identify and intercept those driving recklessly, aggressively and under the influence. Operation Pull Over, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” allows increased enforcement this month and is a statewide effort.
It is supported by federal funding allocated to the state police from the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI). Motorists can expect to see added patrols and sobriety checkpoints during this month’s enforcement period.
