27 FELONY CHARGES AS RESULT OF FRAUD ON A LAKE LURE ELDERLY COUPLE
After a thorough investigation involving fraud, Lake Lure Police Officer Chris Shuford was able to secure 27 Felony Charges on JOANNA MARIE CAIN of 472 Jack McKinney Road, Forest City, North Carolina. Ms. Cain was arrested March 16, 2017 at approximately 10am and taken to the Rutherford County Detention Center by her probation officer. Ms. Cain is on probation for other charges in North Carolina.
Ms. Cain was employed by a well known in-home nursing company and worked for a couple in Lake Lure, caring for the husband who was ill. During her time of employment by the couple, Ms. Cain is accused of fraudulently writing and endorsing blank bank checks she stole from the home. The total amount of fraudulent checks is well over $10,000. Ms. Cain is also accused of stealing gift cards. She is also accused of charging thousands of dollars of merchandise on credit cards belonging to the couple as well as opening accounts in their names. Ms. Cain is also accused of the theft of thousands of dollars of jewelry from the home and pawning it at pawn shops.
Ms. Cain is currently in the custody of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department with a Bond of $240,000.00
