Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, and Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski announced the arrest of one individual after an investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “On March 17, 2017, Steven W. Newman, age 50, of Phillipsburg, NJ, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault, a first degree crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a second degree crime, and Lewdness, a fourth degree crime. The investigation revealed the victim was less than 13 years old. The crimes occurred in Flemington Borough.”
Prosecutor Kearns added, “The guardians of children must always remain vigilant to the fact that those who sexually exploit children could be a trusted friend or family member. Continual communication with children under your care is imperative to keeping them safe and children should be taught about appropriate boundaries.”
The defendant was lodged at the Somerset County Jail and is awaiting his first court appearance. The investigation
