Henry County - Lieutenant Tom Dujmovich, Commander of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District, has announced there will be a sobriety checkpoint held somewhere in Henry County during the evening hours of Friday, March 24^th, 2017, in conjunction with this month’s "Operation Pull Over" campaign.
 
Motorists entering the checkpoint are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registrations readily available, so as to minimize the amount of time that they are delayed. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes during the checkpoint. Troopers will be out in force before and after the checkpoint looking to get impaired drivers off the roadways.
 
 
A FEW PRECAUTIONS:
 

• If celebrating plan ahead and always designate someone as a designated driver.
• Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you’ve been consuming alcoholic beverages.
• If you are impaired, please call a taxi or call a sober friend or family member to come and get you.
• If you are hosting a party, always offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure that all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
• Remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk.  Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think that they are about to drive while impaired.

 
Operation Pull Over allows increased enforcement this month and is a statewide effort supported by federal funding allocated to the state police from the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI). Motorists can expect to see added patrols and sobriety checkpoints during this month’s enforcement period.
 
According to ICJI, in March 2016 there were 495 alcohol-related crashes across Indiana, resulting in 231 injuries and 11 fatalities. Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver
