I-69 Crash Injures Elberfeld man, Illinois Man arrested for DUI
 
Vanderburgh County – This morning at approximately 9:17, Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on I-69 at the 20 mile-marker that injured a Warrick County man.
 
Preliminary investigation revealed Donald J. Smith, 64, of Mt. Carmel, IL, was southbound on I-69 near the 20 mile-marker when he collided into the rear of a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck. Both vehicles were in the passing lane. The driver of the Chevrolet lost control after impact, entered the median and rolled before coming to a final rest in the median.  Smith’s vehicle came to a final rest off the roadway on the west side. The driver of the Chevrolet, Terry Phillips, 62, of Elberfeld, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Smith was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where further investigation revealed he had a BAC of .13%.  Smith was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
