Overturned Semi Closes All Lanes in Crash on Interstate 94

Overturned Semi Closes All Lanes in Crash on Interstate 94

Chesterton, Porter County

The Indiana State Police Lowell Post investigated a crash, this Monday, March 27, 2017, morning of a semi-truck that was hauling steel coils and overturned near the 26 mile marker of Interstate 94.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Jeff Council revealed that on Monday March 27, 2017 at 11:22 a.m. a 2011 Brown International semi-truck owned by Kam Industries LTD out of Kenosha, Wisconsin overturned near the 26 mile marker of Interstate 94.  The semi was being driven by Bryan Ivan Larose, 54, of Salem Wisconsin, and was hauling two steel coils. The semi was initially traveling northbound on State Road 49 and entering Interstate 94 westbound via the State Road 49 entrance ramp.

According to Master Trooper Jeff Council, initial indications were that the semi was traveling too fast to negotiate the ramp, causing it to overturn onto its side and slide approximately 100 feet before rolling over onto its roof.  The semi came to rest facing northbound, with the rear of the semi’s trailer against the concrete barrier wall.  All lanes of travel on Interstate 94 westbound were closed.  The driver, Mr. Larose, was initially pinned inside of his vehicle.  Once he was removed, he was transported to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana with non-life threatening injuries.  There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

Assisting:  Lieutenant Terry Gose, Sergeant Alan Jamerson, Master Troopers Walt Caylor and Jeff Council, Motor Carrier Inspectors Wanda Clay, Richard Lute, Gamaliel Reeves, Taylor Bryant, Joes Towing, Chesterton Fire and EMS, INDOT, Hoosier Helpers
