North Vernon-On Saturday, April 1, 2017, shortly before 9:00 pm, the Indiana State Police and Jennings County Sheriff’s Department responded to crash between a vehicle and a bicycle on Country Squire Boulevard at Dorchester Place in the Country Squire Lakes Community near North Vernon, Indiana. As a result of the crash, a North Vernon, Indiana man who was riding the bicycle died as a result of his injuries.
The initial investigation by the Indiana State Police-Versailles District Crash Reconstruction Team determined that Robert A. King, age 50, North Vernon, Indiana was riding a bicycle southbound on Dorchester Place approaching Country Squire Boulevard when, for an unknown reason, King lost control of the bicycle. King entered Country Squire Boulevard into the path of a northbound 2006 Jeep Liberty being driven by Timothy M. Small, age 31, North Vernon, Indiana. King was struck by Small’s vehicle after falling off the bicycle.
King sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office. Small was not injured in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was assisted by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Geneva Fire Department, Jennings County EMS, and the Jennings County Coroner’s Office.
