Driver Arrested for DUI after Driving Around Troopers

Driver Arrested for DUI after Driving Around Troopers

Clay County—Last night at 9:22, Indiana State Police Trooper David Petrowski was working a semi rollover crash on State Road 42 near the Vigo and Clay county line. Master Trooper Todd Brown and Trooper Kyle Hall were assisting by using their ISP cars with emergency lighting to block both lanes of SR 42 at Clay County Road 700 West. Traffic was being directed off of SR 42 for the crash.

A westbound black Mazda passenger car approached the trooper’s vehicles and drove off the north edge of the roadway and around the fully lighted ISP cars. The Mazda reentered SR 42 and continued westbound approaching the crash scene with members of Lambert Towing still in the roadway cleaning up crash debris.

Trooper Kyle Hall was able to quickly stop the vehicle before entering the crash scene and possibly prevented the vehicle from striking the workers. As Trooper Hall approached the driver, Hall immediately noticed signs of possible burnt Marijuana and paraphernalia in plain sight. The driver failed field sobriety and was taken to a local hospital for a blood test where the driver tested positive for Marijuana usage. Less than one gram of suspected Marijuana was found remaining in the vehicle.

Briana Bingham, age 23, of Avon, IN. was incarcerated in the Clay County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Bingham was also cited for Driving around a Traffic Officer.

No pictures.

Also assisting was ISP Trooper Courtland Woodruff.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
