Wintry Weather Late Tonight into Thursday Evening
Rain will continue to invade northern lower Michigan, and gradually turn over to snow tonight. Snow or mixed rain and snow will continue Thursday, then end from west to east Thursday Night.
• Snow accumulations will range from near nothing in most of eastern upper Michigan, to an inch or two along the northwest lower coastline, to as much as 6 to 9 inches in most of northeast lower Michigan.
• Northeast to north winds will increase tonight. On Thursday, gusts to 40 mph will be common in exposed locales, perhaps 45 mph along the Lake Huron coastline of northeast lower Michigan. This will result in considerable blowing snow.
• Temperatures will be hovering near or above freezing, even during snowy periods. This will result in a wet, sticky snow that will adhere to tree limbs and power lines. When combined with gusty winds, there is the potential for power outages due to downed limbs and lines.
