Missing third graders found safe
On Wednesday, April 05, 2017, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the Groesbeck Police Department received a call from Enge-Washington Intermediate School stating three third grade students voluntarily left the campus without permission. The students were last seen entering a partially-wooded pasture to the west of school property. The staff immediately began a search for the students and notified the police department. Upon our arrival, we coordinated a search effort with the staff of the Groesbeck Independent School District, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit. We were also assisted on scene by multiple citizens, Atmos Energy and members of the Groesbeck Volunteer Fire Department. The three students were ultimately located hiding in a ditch at approximately 1:44 p.m. The students were returned to the school and released to their parents. There were no reported injuries during this incident. The identity of the students and their families will not be released.
