Vehicle accident with serious injuries.

On April 8th, 2017 at approximately 2:34 am the Columbia Township Police Department and the Columbia Township Fire Department were dispatched to a personal injury accident in the 6500 block of Riverside Rd. Upon arrival, the occupants of the vehicle were assessed for injuries by the Columbia Township Fire Department with assistance from the Liberty Township Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance. The passenger of the vehicle, a 27-year-old male from Columbia Township suffered significant injury. The passenger was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center by survival flight for life threatening injures. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old male from Columbia Township was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital by Jackson Community Ambulance for serious injuries.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing. The initial assessment of the crash shows that a 2000 Ford Explorer left the road and struck at least two trees before coming to rest. Alcohol is believed to be a likely factor in this crash.

The names of the occupants of the Ford Explorer are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation and notification of the family members.

Columbia Township Police were assisted at the scene by the Napoleon Township Police Department. Also, assisting with the investigation is an accident reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police.
