On Sunday, April 9, 2017 at approximately 2:10am, a Hope Mills Police Officer was patrolling on Hope Mills Road when he observed a vehicle traveling north on Hope Mills Road towards Cumberland Road driving at a high speed while recklessly passing other vehicles. At that time, the Officer activated his blue lights, turned around and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The Officer caught up with the vehicle and performed a traffic stop on it on Hope Mills Road in the area of Ashton Road. After stopping the vehicle, the Officer made contact with the driver, later identified Cordell Clinton Caver, 22, of the 5400 block of Starbeam Drive, Fayetteville. After contacting Caver and obtaining information necessary to complete the traffic stop, the Officer went back to his vehicle where he met with a Fayetteville Police Officer who had arrived on-scene to assist in a ‘back-up’ capacity. As the Officers were speaking, Caver began to throw objects out of the window. At that time, both Officers went back up to Caver’s vehicle where they saw he had thrown bags of suspected Marijuana out of the vehicle. Caver was then arrested and a subsequent search of the vehicle by a Fayetteville Police K-9 and the Officers located more bags of marijuana in the driver and passenger compartment of the car. After locating the marijuana inside the vehicle, Caver’s front seat passenger, Jael Darius Milton, 23 of the 4200 block of Knollwood Drive, Fayetteville, was also arrested. Officers also found, during the course of the traffic stop, that the license plate on Caver’s vehicle was stolen from another vehicle. Both subjects were transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where they were jailed for the following charges:
