Training- Active Shooter South El Monte High School

On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 0900 hours, Temple Station will host an “Active Shooter” training exercise at South El Monte High School, located at 1001 Durfee Avenue, South El Monte, CA 91733. The training instructors will consist of members of the Tactics and Survival Training Unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The purpose of this training is to provide station patrol personnel, high school staff, their security officers, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department with the opportunity to develop their skills and tactics in planning for, and handling situations involving “active shooters”, at locations with multiple victims.
The exercise will address topics including threat assessment, situational locations, tactical awareness, and rapid response tactics. The use of “Simunition” ammunition in handguns and rifles will simulate a real-life tactical situation and increase the student’s learning ability. In addition, a professional make-up artist will apply simulated injuries and wounds to the volunteers to also increase the realistic training environment.
This training exercise will include Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel from Temple Station, Tactics and Survival Training Unit, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), Aero Bureau (Air 5), Crescenta Valley Station and Civil Litigation Unit. The Los Angeles County Fire Department will also participate in the training exercise to develop a stronger working relationship with law enforcement during a tactical situation.
This training exercise is a result of a strong partnership between Temple Station Captain David Flores, the South El Monte City Council, Mayor Gloria Olmos, Mayor Pro Tem Angelica R. Garcia, Councilmember Hector Delgado, Councilmember Joseph J. Gonzalez, the El Monte Union High School District, Superintendent Edward A. Zuniga, and the South El Monte High School, Principal Amy Avina.
