Sheriff’s Office Arrests Police Impersonator;
Asks for Help from the Public Locating Potential Victims
On Thursday, April 13th, 2017, Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested Anthony Roberson, age 31, for Impersonating a Public Servant (a Level 6 Felony), Criminal Confinement while Armed (a Level 3 Felony), and Unlawful Use of Body Armor (a Level 3 Felony).
Roberson’s arrest comes after an incident on April 8th, 2017, when Mr. Roberson, driving a white Ford Crown Victoria with red and blue lights, attempted to pull over an off-duty Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was driving an unmarked Sheriff’s vehicle. During the course of a follow-up investigation on April 13th, Mr. Roberson made an additional illegal traffic stop on another Sheriff’s Deputy, after which he was arrested.
Lieutenant Colonel Kerry Forestal, Commander of the Criminal Division of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, stated, “This is the type of arrest that all in law enforcement appreciate: Stopping someone from using authority that he or she does not have, and preventing that person from further abusing members of our community. This individual, who seems to have an unusual interest in criminal justice, will hopefully learn a lot during his trip through the judicial system. We hope it will deter him and any others from attempting such a foolish activity.”
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has reason to believe that Mr. Roberson has attempted more than two illegal traffic stops, and are asking any members of the public to come forward if they believe they have been stopped by Mr. Roberson.
