SIbley Road closure
Dear Residents and Property Owners:
Construction for the Sibley Road reconstruction project (I-275 to east of Wahrman Road) is scheduled to begin on April 17th. The project includes removal of the existing pavement, installation of new sewer, concrete box culvert, reconstructing 0.51 miles of new concrete surface, placing a new asphalt surface, new pavement markings, guardrail improvements, and signage. Completion of the road improvements is anticipated to be Mid May, barring any unforeseen delays or inclement weather. Restoration will resume in the fall if seasonal limitations prevent immediate restoration.
During construction you can expect the road to be constructed in stages. Lane closures will allow for portions of the existing pavement to be removed, the underlying pavement repaired, and the new pavement will be constructed. Traffic will then be switched so the remaining pavement can be addressed. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times during the stages #1 and #2 construction. However, intermittent stoppages in traffic may be encountered. Increased traffic congestion will be experienced. There will also be a ten day full closure of Sibley Road to install a new box culvert at the Hubert Drain; only local traffic will be permitted to access residences and businesses.
This project was designed using applicable federal, state, and county guidelines. Pursuant to these guidelines, this office is tasked with brining the Right-of-Way (R.O.W.) up to current standards. These standards may include the removal of boulders, trees, railroad ties, retaining walls, etc. that are determined to be obstructions within the roadway clear zone, as these objects may present safety hazards to the motoring public.
Property owners are asked to identify and clearly stake the locations of sprinkler systems (heads, valves, and underground lines) or any other underground utilities that are not part of the MISS DIG program. Please have the sprinkler systems identified by Monday, April 17th. After this date the working condition of all identified sprinkler systems will be verified. Sprinkler systems damaged during the road construction will NOT be replaced as a part of this project. Damage to any sprinkler systems placed without a Wayne County permit will not be addressed. Please notify this office of staked sprinkler systems at the phone number listed below.
Questions concerning the project may be addressed at the on-site construction office or by calling the Wayne County Field Engineering Division at (734) 595-6504, ext. 2065.
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
