Man Arrested For Robbery.
On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Hope Mills Police Officers responded to the Marathon convenience store on Legion Road in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival, Officers learned that the suspect had forcibly taken lottery tickets from the clerk and left the area prior to their arrival. The case was then forwarded to the Hope Mills Police Department’s Detective Division for further investigation. During the course of their investigation, Detectives learned that John Charles Newman, 35, was responsible for the robbery. On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, Newman was arrested by Fayetteville Police Officers on non-related charges and, Hope Mills Police Detectives served him with their arrest warrants at that time. Newman was jailed at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $20,000.00 bond for the following charges:
