Versailles Troopers Honored at Awards Ceremony

Indianapolis-Today, four troopers from the Versailles Post were honored during an awards ceremony held at the Indiana Government Center in downtown Indianapolis.

The awards, presented by Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter, recognized troopers from around the state of Indiana who have performed their jobs with integrity, service, and professionalism and at many times went above and beyond the call of duty.

The 2016 Indiana State Police-Versailles District ‘Trooper of the Year’ was Senior Trooper Randel Miller.  Trp. Miller is a ten year veteran of the Indiana State Police.  Trp. Miller along with his K-9 partner ‘Jinx’ patrols the roadways of the Versailles District.  Trp. Miller spends much of his time pursuing criminals that are driving on Indiana roadways.  Trp. Miller is regularly among the district leaders in criminal arrests.  Lt. Paul Adams, Versailles District Commander, recently said, “Trp. Miller’s hard work and dedication to make our communities safe is second to none.  He does his job with integrity and professionalism and is a true asset to the Versailles District and the citizens of Indiana.”

Trooper Travis Linville, a five year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was honored with an Indiana State Police “Combat Action Award”.  Trp. Linville’s award was given to him as a result of his actions on October 28, 2016.  On that date, Trp. Linville responded with officers from the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Excise Police to a domestic disturbance at a residence on County Road 850 West in Holton, Indiana.  At one point during the incident, a male suspect exited the residence and fired at the officers.  Trp. Linville remained poised and returned fire.  The suspect re-entered the residence before ultimately surrendering hours later.  Trp. Linville’s courage under fire prevented any officers from being injured and ultimately led to a peaceful conclusion to the situation.

Trooper Christopher Lockman, a six year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was honored with an Indiana State Police “Lifesaving Award”.  Trp. Lockman’s award was given to him as a result of his actions on February 19, 2017 in Jackson County, Indiana.  Trp. Lockman, who is the assistant squad leader of the Indiana State Police-South Zone Dive Team, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, successfully rescued two people who were stranded in a capsized boat in the White River near Seymour, Indiana.

Trooper Korry Clark, an eight year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was presented with an award for being the Versailles District’s top DUI Enforcement Trooper of the Year for 2016.  Last year, Trp. Clark arrested 79 intoxicated drivers while patrolling the roads of Bartholomew and Jackson Counties.  Lt. Adams said, “Trp. Clark’s performance in the area of DUI enforcement undoubtedly made our district safer and helped prevent crashes that cause property damage and personal injury”.

All troopers who received awards were given plaques to recognize their achievements.
