On Monday 04/24/17 at approximately 4:00 PM, WTPD officers responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a black Lexus and a garbage truck in the 400 block of Rte. 31 S. in Washington Township.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Lexus, Kristy Chermeski, age 34, of Lebanon, NJ was traveling southbound on Rte. 31 S. when for an unknown reason crossed into the northbound lane striking a Premier garbage truck operated by Keith Hoflund, age 51 , of Bridgewater, NJ.
Ms. Chemerski was entrapped in her vehicle and was extricated by members of the Washington Emergency Squad and Washington Township Fire Department, She was air lifted by NorthStar Aero Medical to Morristown Memorial Hospital. As a result of the accident, Rte. 31 was closed until 7:25 PM.
WTPD officers were assisted by the Washington Emergency Squad, Washington Township and Washington Borough Fire Departments, Clinton Rescue, Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics, Warren County Hazmat, and the NJSP Department of Transportation Traffic Diversion Unit.
The incident is still under investigation.
