Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kyle Glaze revealed at approximately 7:25 p.m., yesterday, April 27th, 2017, a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Albert James II, 39 of Valparaiso, was east bound on I-80/94 when for unknown reasons he hit the concrete median barrier wall. The Blazer went back across all east bound lanes, went off the roadway, and down into a water filled ditch on the south side.
Good Samaritans advised that James was unresponsive. Shortly thereafter, Glaze and two Lake County Sheriff deputies arrived. The Blazer was in about twenty-four inches of water and mud. Glaze pulled James from the Blazer and with assistance from Lake County and Lake Station Police got James to the roadway. A Lake Station officer began CPR.
Glaze retrieved his Automated External Defibrillator, AED, out of his police car and subsequently administered it. Medical personnel arrived and took over CPR.
James was taken to North Lake Methodist in Gary and later died. His family has been notified.
