Larceny of/from Vehicles - Reduce your risk of being a victim

Over the past year the Muskegon Public Safety Office has been putting out information in reference to locking cars as a measure to reduce your risk of becoming the victim of theft of items taken from your vehicle.

We are stressing this once again as this continues to be a major issue. We are seeing multiples of these events every week. We continue to see larcenies from unlocked vehicles and it knows no boundaries as to location. We are unsure if people are not getting the notices we are putting out or if it is an intentional choice to leave the vehicles unlocked despite the notices but we would ask everyone’s assistance in sharing this. If you are with a neighborhood association, please share with your membership, if you are a resident, please share with your neighbors, friends, family, etc.

The number one thing we are asking is that people please keep their cars locked. On top of that, parking in well-lit areas is also helpful.

Please report any suspicious activity you may see in this regard.

We encourage residents to take these very simple steps to reduce your risk of becoming a victim. Criminals obviously are not looking to get caught and want targets where they can get to and commit their crime quickly and then leave.

Thank you in advance for sharing this simple advice with your neighbors, friends and family.
