Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III, announced the sentencing of Thomas Seguine, age 34, of Phillipsburg, NJ.
On February 19, 2016, Mr. Seguine was arrested and charged with Official Misconduct, a 2nd degree crime, and Sexual Assault, a 3rd degree crime. Mr. Seguine was employed as a Senior Correction Officer for the New Jersey Department of Corrections at the time of the arrest. The joint investigation revealed that Mr. Seguine engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton Township.
On January 19, 2017, Mr. Seguine was indicted by a Hunterdon County Grand Jury for Official Misconduct and Sexual Assault. Mr. Seguine pled guilty on February 1, 2017 to Official Misconduct.
On May 1, 2017, the Honorable Angela Borkowski, J.S.C., sentenced Mr. Seguine to 3 years in State Prison, with a mandatory 2 years before parole eligibility. Mr. Seguine is also ordered to forfeit his right to employment as a law enforcement officer in the State of New Jersey.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “Everyone is betrayed when a sworn law-enforcement officer violates the oath he or she has vowed to uphold. All inmates have a right to be safe within the institutions where we as a society demand they be detained and should be free of sexual abuse regardless of their crime.”
Prosecutor Kearns added, “I would like to commend the detectives from the Department of Corrections Special Investigation Division and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit for their dedication and diligence in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Daniels for her outstanding effort.”
