Announces An Arrest For:
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill (2 Counts), and Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits
The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Tariq Daveon Newsome, 18 years of age of Southern Pines, North Carolina for the following charges: Assault with a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill (2 Counts), and Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by both the Patrol and Investigation Divisions of the Southern Pines Police Department. On May 3, 2017, at approximately 5:25 pm, officers from the Southern Pines Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots being fired at the Timberlane Apartments located in the 100 block of Murray Hill Road, Southern Pines, North Carolina. Tariq Daveon Newsome had fled the area on foot prior to the officer’s arrival. No individuals were reported to have been struck by the gunfire. Tariq Daveon Newsome was taken into custody without incident on May, 4, 2017, at approximately 3:30 pm, less than twenty four hours after the shooting incident occurred. There are no additional suspects in this incident.
Tariq Daveon Newsome appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and is being held at the Moore County Detention Center under a $15,000.00 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on May 9, 2017.
