Sandbags Available to Hamilton County Residents Friday, May 5, 8A-4P, at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville
Hamilton County Emergency Management is again offering sandbags to assist Hamilton County residents prepare for potential flooding. Sandbags are available Friday, May 5 from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Filled sandbags are available for self-service loading, transportation, and disposal at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville. Proof of Hamilton County residency is required to obtain the bags. Sandbags are most useful ahead of flooding so residents should take steps ahead of time to prevent any possible flood waters. Sandbags are only available for flood mitigation.
A yellow level Travel Advisory remains in effect for unincorporated areas of Hamilton County until further notice. This is the lowest level of local travel advisory and means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation. Individuals should use caution or avoid those areas. Unincorporated roads are those roads maintained by Hamilton County, usually roads outside cities and towns.
Due to continued heavy rain, please use extreme caution on all roadways. County roadways are experiencing high water in several areas. Highway crews will be out placing "High Water" signs and barricades in areas where water has crested the roadway. Rainy conditions are expected to last through Saturday.
As a reminder, motorists should never drive into flood water. Never move or drive around a barricade as the results can be deadly. Turn around and go another way if high water areas are encountered. Likewise, keep children away from flooded areas. It takes only a few inches of swiftly moving water to cause a person to lose balance and as little as six inches of water can sweep away a full sized truck or SUV.
