Lomita Sheriff’s Detectives Identify Suspect in Brutal Assault on San Pedro Teen
After a lengthy and methodical investigation, detectives from Lomita Sheriff’s Station identified the suspect alleged in a vicious assault of a 15-year-old boy, which took place in early spring, in La Rambla, an unincorporated community of Los Angeles County.
It was just after 11:00 P.M. on Friday, March 30, 2017, when the victim was contacted by two adult men in an alley, in the 900 block of West Second Street. After a brief confrontation, the suspects beat the victim.
The victim, a star baseball player at a local high school, was transported to a local hospital and medically treated. At the time, he was listed in serious condition, and has since been released to complete the healing process at home.
Jaymel Williams, 20, of San Pedro, has been a person of interest since the early part of the investigation. Detectives conducted multiple interviews of bystanders present during the incident. Williams is currently booked into a custody facility in a neighboring county for unrelated charges. He was interviewed Monday, May 9th, by Lomita Sheriff’s Station detectives who anticipate presenting this case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration later this week.
The second man involved is considered as a person of interest at this time and has not been charged.
Detectives worked closely with District Attorney’s Office Hardcore Gang Unit personnel from the onset of the investigation, working meticulously to learn the circumstances surrounding the incident, vetting tips and witness accounts. Detectives also received assistance from investigators from the Sheriff’s Department Detective Division, Los Angeles Police Department-Harbor Division, and numerous other local law enforcement agencies.
Information about the incident provided by community members proved invaluable to locating persons of interest, witnesses and clues, and ultimately solving the crime.
