PRESS RELEASE: One in custody and one injured following a shooting during a drug deal.
Late last night, around 11:30 p.m., Warsaw Police responded to a person suffering from a gunshot wound near U.S. 30 and State Road 15, on the north side of Warsaw. There police located the female victim in her car with a gunshot wound to her left forearm. Several minutes later, Warsaw Police were called to Lassus Handy Dandy, on State Road 15 North, where a male stated he was robbed and pepper sprayed.
Warsaw Police investigated and determined the two calls are related. The investigation determined that the female and her passengers had set up a meeting to purchase an ounce of marijuana in the Warsaw Wal*Mart parking lot. Upon meeting, the drug deal goes bad and the suspect approaches the victim’s car with a handgun. As the suspect approaches the car, the victim pepper sprays the suspect and starts to drive away when the suspect fires at the car, striking the victim in the arm. The victim drives south from the location to get away, and pulls off the road where police are called.
Warsaw Police obtained search warrants for both vehicles and cellular devices. Following execution of the search warrants, and interviews with all parties, 25 year old, Edward Bishop, of Lafayette, Indiana, was taken into custody. The search of Bishop’s vehicle located a 9mm handgun, several designer drugs, marijuana, and a substantial amount of counterfeit money. Edward Bishop was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on initial charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, counterfeiting, possession of narcotics with intent to deal, and possession of marijuana with intend to deal. He is being held with no bond on a prosecutorial hold.
The victim was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with non-life threatening injuries to her arm. Warsaw Police wish to note that all parties involved are not from the Warsaw area. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
