Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Officer Injured in Crash
Wolcott-Today at approximately 1:06 p.m. on US 231 at the east intersection of US 24 in Wolcott, IN an Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle (ISP CMV) police car was broadsided by a cement mixer truck sending both drivers to separate hospitals.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2009 white Ford Crown Victoria driven by Motor Carrier Inspector Cheri Johnson, 23 of Lake Station, IN was northbound on US 231 approaching the intersection with US 24. Johnson allegedly failed to yield and was broadsided on the driver’s side by an eastbound white and red 2006 ADV cement mixer owned by Irving Materials of Greenfield, IN and driven by Robert B. Hale, 38 of Galveston, IN.
The Ford ended up in the ditch on the east side of US 24. The cement truck rolled on its side and came to rest on US 231. Johnson had to be extricated out of her car and was taken by ambulance to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette with minor injuries and released. Hale was transported to IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello, IN with minor injuries. He also was treated and released.
Seatbelts were used by both drivers. The crash is still under investigation. Assisting at the scene were troopers from the ISP Lafayette Post, White County Sheriff’s Department, Wolcott Fire and Rescue, Monticello Fire Department EMS, Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Division and Farney’s Wrecker Service.
